Eco-School & Blue School
Sustainability and care for the environment are not add-ons, they are at the heart of our daily life.
At Escola Global, caring for our environment isn’t a checkbox, it’s woven into every school day. As both an Eco‑School and Blue School, sustainability is not just taught, it's lived.

What does it mean to be an Eco-School?
To be an Eco-School means that we are a school committed to a comprehensive approach to environmental education and sustainability, integrating these principles into all aspects of school life, allowing Escola Global International School´s students to engage with environment and sustainability matters, giving them the opportunity to actively protect it.
The Eco-Schools programme starts in the classroom, expands to the school and eventually fosters change in the community.
Through this programme, our students, led by Green Team – formed by secondary voluntary students, experience a sense of achievement by being able to have a say in the environmental management policies of the school, ultimately steering it towards certification and the prestige which comes with being awarded the Green Flag.
Some of the key features of our eco-school programme includes:
-
Environmental Curriculum: Lessons that incorporate topics like climate change, biodiversity, and renewable energy to educate students about environmental issues and sustainable practices.
-
Green Practices: Implementation of eco-friendly practices such as recycling programs, energy conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable transportation.
-
Eco-Committee: Formation of a group comprising students, teachers, and the community, dedicated to planning and overseeing the school’s environmental initiatives.
-
Community Involvement: Engagement with the local community through environmental projects, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with local organisations.
-
Special Events: We often organise dedicated events to promote sustainability, environmental education, and community involvement to help raise awareness, encourage participation, and provide hands-on learning experiences.
-
Outdoor Learning: Use of outdoor spaces for teaching and learning about nature, gardening, and wildlife conservation.
-
Certifications and Awards: Participation in programs like the Eco-Schools program, which provides a framework for environmental education and awards schools that meet specific sustainability criteria.
Our goal, as an eco-school, is to cultivate a culture of
environmental stewardship, preparing students to be responsible global citizens who can contribute positively to the planet’s future.

Green Flag Award: Learning to Care for the Planet
We are proud to announce that, after years of solidly implementing the eco-programme and reaching high levels of performance, in July 2024 Escola Global International School was awarded with the much coveted Eco-Schools Green Flag!
The green flag is much more than a worldwide accreditation that rewards environmental education for over 25 years. It honors our commitment to sustainability and the hard work that our teaching and non-teaching staff, has put into integrating environmental education into every aspect of school life.
We are proud to be shaping the next generation of innovative and inspiring environmentalists, sending a key message to society: schools are thinking about the future and are actively committed to protecting and caring for planet Earth.

Blue School: Connecting with the Sea
As a certified Blue School, we place a strong focus on ocean literacy. Living on an island, our students experience first-hand the importance of the sea and the need to protect it.
Blue School projects include:
-
Studying marine biodiversity and ecosystems.
-
Exploring the impact of human activity, from overfishing to plastic pollution.
-
Taking part in conservation initiatives, including beach clean-ups and awareness events.
-
Building a sense of respect and responsibility for the Mediterranean environment that surrounds us.
This approach encourages students to see the ocean not only as part of their landscape, but as a vital global resource they are responsible for safeguarding.
It all starts here!
