Duke of Edinburgh Award

A Programme That Builds More Than Grades

At Escola Global, students aren’t just taught to succeed; they’re encouraged to strive, care, and grow beyond the classroom. That’s why from Year 10, we offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a globally recognised, non-academic programme that transforms how young people see themselves and the world.

Founded in 1956 by HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (commonly known as DofE) is a personal achievement framework that encourages self-discovery, resilience, and service. It’s active in over 140 countries and valued by universities and employers alike for the real-world skills it nurtures.

Four Core Sections
(Five at Gold Level)

Participants complete progressively more challenging levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold) by engaging in four key areas:

  1. Volunteering – giving back through service to others or the community

  2. Physical – setting and achieving personal fitness goals

  3. Skills – learning or improving a hobby or craft (e.g., cooking, photography, music)

  4. Expedition – planning and completing a journey in unfamiliar terrain as a team

  5. Residential (Gold only): a five-day group experience away from home, focused on personal challenge and independence

Why It Matters at Escola Global

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award complements our academic and pastoral approach by helping students:

  • Discover passions and build confidence through activities that matter to them

  • Grow resilience and independence in outdoor and service challenges

  • Develop well-rounded skills beyond the classroom: communication, leadership, determination

  • Earn a recognised qualification respected around the world for character and tenacity

A Transformative Experience

Many Year 10 students embark on the Award and soon experience how meaningful it can be, whether in building friendships, finding purpose, or seeing what they’re truly capable of. It’s not just an extracurricular; it’s an experience that can change outlooks and open futures.
